Navigating Content

DefenseImagery.mil provides a wealth of knowledge about visual information (VI) in the Department of Defense. This page explains how to navigate the informational content on the site.

The DefenseImagery.mil logo appears at the top of all pages on the site. It indicates that the page you are currently viewing is part of the DefenseImagery website.

You can click the logo on any page to quickly navigate back to the DefenseImagery home page.

The main navigation appears at the top of each page, just below the DefenseImagery.mil logo. It provides quick access to the major content sections of the site from any page. Click an item in the main navigation bar to access the corresponding section.

On section landing pages and article pages, the label corresponding to section you are currently viewing remains highlighted in the main navigation, as depicted above.

"Breadcrumb" navigation appears on all pages except the home page. Breadcrumbs help you navigate the site by providing a clue as to the path you took to arrive at a particular page. For example, if you navigate to the Captioning Style Guide page under Learning Resources, the breadcrumb allows you to easily access the "parent" page, Learning Resources, as well as the DefenseImagery home page.

In the breadcrumb depicted above, you can see that the Captioning Basics page is located under Captioning Style Guide in the Learning Resources section. You can click any of the titles in the breadcrumb to quickly navigate to the corresponding page.

Section Landing Pages

Major section pages, or landing pages, consist of links to other sections or article content pages. The purpose of these pages is to help organize site content into logical sections.

To access content within the section of the site you are viewing, simply click one of the subsection links (an example of which is depicted above) on the landing page. Additionally, landing pages may or may not contain featured information or related links in blocks on the right side of the page.

Article Content Pages

Article pages compose the majority of the informational content on the DefenseImagery site. Each contains a breadcrumb showing its location in relation to parent sections. Additionally, article pages may or may not contain featured information or related links in blocks on the right side of the page.

Utility Navigation

The utility navigation bar appears at the top-right corner of every page, to the right of the DefenseImagery.mil logo. It provides access to important site functions.

Click the title of the section or site function in the utility navigation to access the appropriate page. See the Site Features page in the Site Help section for information about the Low/High Bandwidth link.

Footer Navigation

The footer navigation bar appears at the bottom of every page. It provides access information about the DefenseImagery.mil site itself, as well as other site functions.
